…In 1803, he was so impressed by the writings of Motoori Norinaga that he dreamed of receiving approval from Norinaga to become his posthumous disciple, and in 1805 (Bunka 2), he became a disciple of Motoori Shuntei. During this time, he wrote Kamousyo (1803) in which he argued against Dazai Shundai, and Kishin Shinron (1805) in which he advocated Yukiron (theory of demons), thus laying the foundation for the unique academic system he would develop in later years. In 1811, he suddenly had doubts about the scholarship of his teacher Norinaga, and thus experienced a kind of conversion.
