Coconut oil (yashiyu)

Japanese: ヤシ油(椰子油) - やしゆ（英語表記）coconut oil

Oil extracted by pressing from the endosperm of tropical coconuts. Also called coconut oil. Dried endosperm is called copra (oil content 63-68%) and is exported in this form. It is also called copra oil because it is extracted from copra. Melting point 20-28°C, specific gravity 0.914-0.938, refractive index n _D ⁴⁰ = 1.4477-1.4497. It has the characteristic of softening and melting within a narrow temperature range. The fatty acid composition is C ₁₂ (12 carbons) lauric acid, which is the most abundant at 47-56%, followed by C ₁₄ myristic acid at 15-18%, oleic acid at 5-11%, and other saturated fatty acids C ₆ (1%), C ₈ (7-9%), C ₁₀ (5-7%), C ₁₆ (6-8%), and C ₁₈ (1-4%).

熱帯産のココヤシの実の胚乳から圧搾法で採取した油脂。ココナッツ油ともいう。胚乳を乾燥したものはコプラ(含油量63～68％)と呼ばれ，この形で輸出される。コプラから採油するのでコプラ油ともいう。融点20～28℃，比重0.914～0.938，屈折率n_D⁴⁰＝1.4477～1.4497。狭い温度範囲で軟化融解する特徴をもつ。脂肪酸組成は，C₁₂(炭素数12)のラウリン酸が最も多く47～56％，次いでC₁₄のミリスチン酸が15～18％，オレイン酸5～11％，ほかにC₆(1％)，C₈(7～9％)，C₁₀(5～7％)，C₁₆(6～8％)，C₁₈(1～4％)の飽和脂肪酸から成る。
