The title of a Nagauta and Icchu-bushi piece. (1) Nagauta was composed in June 1828 (Bunsei 11) by the 10th Kineya Rokuzaemon (4th Saburosuke). The original title was "Yaegasumi Sekatobi." The story is a combination of the Noh plays "Sumida-gawa," "Hanjo," and "Sakura-gawa," and tells the story of a madwoman searching for her child and a boatman. It was first performed on a float at the Sanno Festival of Hie Shrine. At first, it was planned to use the Itchu-bushi "Senkatobi," but the atmosphere did not match, so it was rewritten as Nagauta. As a result, it is heavily influenced by Itchu-bushi. (2) In the Itchu-bushi version, the original title is "Onoe no Kumo, Senki-obi." It was performed second after "Suketsune Ogikeizu" at the Morita-za in Edo in 1751 (the first year of the Horeki era). The words were by Horikoshi Nisoji, the music by Miyazaki Chugoro, and the choreography by Murakami Tsunegoro. The subject matter is the same as in Nagauta, but the lyrics are different. Both Nagauta and Itchu are accompanied by dance. [Kiyoko Moteki] Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
