His father was Hideyuki and his mother was Tokugawa Ieyasu's daughter Furihime. His childhood name was Tsurumatsumaru. He was Nakatsukasa Daifu and chamberlain. In 1626 (Kan'ei 3), he was bestowed 40,000 koku of land in Kaminoyama, Dewa Province (Yamagata Prefecture). In 1627, the lord of Aizu's brother Tadasato died without an heir, and so the 600,000 koku of Aizu was confiscated by the shogunate. In return, Tadatomo was given 200,000 koku of land in Matsuyama, Iyo, and 40,000 koku of land in Hino, Omi (Shiga Prefecture), for a total of 240,000 koku. In 1636, a family dispute occurred, and his elder retainer Fukunishi Kichizaemon and others were punished. He died in Edo. With Tadatomo's death, the Gamo family became extinct with no heir. It is said that red turnips, a specialty of the Matsuyama region, were brought from Hino during Tadatomo's time.
