Minamikoizumi ruins

Japanese: 南小泉遺跡 - みなみこいずみいせき

Located in Tomizuka 1-2-chome and Furushiro 3-chome in Sendai City, this is a vast archaeological site located on an alluvial plain, mainly dating from the Yayoi and Kofun periods. From 1939 to 1941, numerous artifacts were unearthed during the expansion work of Kasuminome Airfield, attracting academic attention. The pottery from the Yayoi period is mostly of the middle square-shaped enclosure type, and also includes pottery fragments with rice grain marks, stone knives, rod-shaped clam-blade stone axes, single-edged stone axes, stone chisels, and horned stone axes. In addition, 15 sets of joint-mouthed jar coffins from this period were discovered in a certain small area, which was presumed to have been a communal cemetery.

仙台市遠見塚1,2丁目，古城3丁目にあり，沖積平野に立地する弥生時代と古墳時代を中心とする広大な遺跡。1939年から41年にかけて，霞目飛行場の拡張工事で多数の遺物が出土して学界の注目を集めた。弥生時代の土器は中期の桝形囲式がもっとも多く，籾痕のついた土器片，石庖丁，棒状蛤刃石斧，片刃石斧，石のみ，有角石斧などを伴出している。また，この時期の合口甕棺が一定のせまい地域から15組発見され，そこが共同墓地であったと推定された。
