Kameda Village

…The Wajinchi of the early modern period was significantly different in character from the early Wajinchi in that it was established from above and incorporated as part of the Japanese-style Sinocentric order under the isolationist system. In the early modern period, the Wajinchi area was, in principle, from Kumaishi Village in the west to Kameda Village in the east, but the de facto eastern edge was Ishizaki Village (present-day Ishizaki-cho, Hakodate City) near Shiokubi Cape. Later, in 1800 (Kansei 12) during the former Shogunate period, when the six Hakodate locations from Oyasu (present-day Oyasu-cho, Toi-cho, Oshima Branch Office) to Nodaoi (present-day Nodaoi, Yakumo-cho, Oshima Branch Office) became "muranami" (administratively treated as equivalent to a "village"), the eastern border was effectively extended to Yamukushinai (present-day Yamagoe, Yakumo-cho). …
