Chinese novelist. His real name was Zhou Shaoyi. He was from Yiyang County, Hunan Province. He joined the Chinese Communist Party while studying at Shanghai Labor University. He was once imprisoned for participating in the labor movement. He translated Sholokhov's novel "Virgin Land Opened" and edited "Weekly Literature". During the Second Sino-Japanese War, he taught at the Lu Xun Academy of Arts and Literature in Yan'an, and wrote "Impressions of the Border District of Jinchaji", "The First Night", "Sparrow", and others. After liberation, he won the Stalin Prize for Literature for his novel "Storm and Rain" (1948), which depicts land reform in the northeast. His novel "Great Changes in the Mountain Village" is a sister work to the same work, and is set in an agricultural production cooperative in Hunan Province. His other works include Torrent of Iron and Water (1955), a novella based on his experiences at the Shijingshan Steel Factory, and Selected Works of Zhou Libo (1959).

中国の小説家。本名周紹儀。湖南(こなん／フーナン)省益陽(えきよう／イーヤン)県の人。上海(シャンハイ)労働大学に学ぶ間に、中国共産党に入党。労働運動に参加して投獄されたこともある。ショーロホフの長編『開かれた処女地』の翻訳に従事し、『毎周文学』編集にあたった。日中戦争中、延安(えんあん／イエンアン)の魯迅(ろじん)芸術文学院で教鞭(きょうべん)をとり、『晋察冀(しんさつき)辺区印象記』『第一夜』『雀』などを書いた。解放後、東北(とうほく／トンペイ)の土地改革を描いた長編『暴風驟雨(しゅうう)』（1948）でスターリン文学賞を受賞した。長編『山郷巨変』は同作品の姉妹編で、湖南省のある農業生産合作社が舞台となっている。このほか、石景山(せきけいざん／シーチンシャン)鋼鉄廠(しょう)における体験を中編小説化した『鉄水奔流』（1955）や『周立波選集』（1959）などがある。
