Hydrophis melanocephalus (English spelling)

...There are 53 species of sea snakes in 15 genera that live in the warm waters of the Persian Gulf, the Indian Ocean, the Western Pacific, and Oceania, with some reaching the Pacific coast of Central America. In Japan, nine species and subspecies have been recorded off the coast of the Ryukyu Islands, including the black-headed sea snake Hydrophis melanocephalus (total length 1.2m) and the Iijima sea snake Emydocephalus annulatus iijimae (total length 0.8m). All of them live in the sea, except for one species, the Bonbon sea snake H. semperi (total length 1.2m, thought to be a landlocked form of the black-headed sea snake), which lives in the freshwater of Lake Taal on the island of Luzon.
