Died 47 BC, Salonae. Roman statesman. Tribune (Tribnus Plebis) in 67 BC. Passed the Gabinian Laws, which gave Pompey (the Elder) the power to order the suppression of pirates. Consul (Consul) in 58 BC. Ruled Syria, divided Judea, and gave power to Antipater. In 55 BC, he restored Ptolemy XII Auletes to the throne of Egypt after receiving a large bribe. In 54 BC, he was prosecuted and exiled, but was recalled by Julius Caesar. He later fought under Caesar at Illyricum, but was killed in battle.

Gabinius, Aulus

A Roman soldier in the 2nd century BCE. Grandson of a slave. He served under Metellus Macedonicus and fought against Macedonia and Achaia from 148 to 146 BCE. He was a tribune in 139 BCE. He passed the law requiring the use of secret ballots in elections.
