《God's Little Land》

...He gained fame in the 1930s for his strong social consciousness and grotesque humor, depicting the miserable lives of poor whites and blacks in the Deep South. His play Tobacco Road (1932), about poor Georgia farmers, was dramatized by Jack Kirkland and ran for a record seven and a half years on Broadway. His God's Little Acre (1933) caused a stir when it was banned due to its bold sexual depictions, but after that he produced a promiscuous style of popular works that were similar to each other, and his reputation declined. He is essentially a short story writer, and has many masterpieces, including A Land Full of Swedes (1932), which won the Yale Criticism Prize.
