A river in the northeastern part of Hebei Province, China. It originates at the northern foot of the Damaqun Mountains on the border between Hebei Province and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, flows southeast through Inner Mongolia, and collects water from mountainous areas such as Yanshan, Qilaotushan, and Yinshan before flowing into the Bohai Bay. The upper reaches are called the Lightning River, and its main tributaries include the Xiaolan River, Yixun River, Wulie River, and Qinglong River. It is 877 kilometers long and has a drainage area of 44,600 square kilometers. The lower reaches form a vast coastal plain and delta, but the seaward areas are covered with salt soil and marshes, and many areas are undeveloped.
