A narrative poem by the English poet Byron. 4 volumes in total. Published between 1812 and 1818. Volumes 1 and 2 (1812) are poems of wandering about the Mediterranean countries of a nobleman who is tired of the pleasures of life and has an "unhealed emotional wound," and who encounters the scenery and history of foreign lands. This collection of poems, full of melancholy beauty, made Byron a famous poet in Europe overnight. However, volumes 3 and 4 (1816, 1818), which tell the travels of a poet who left England forever after divorcing his wife, convey an even deeper and truer cry from his soul.
