〘noun〙① The back of a turtle. Also, something that is raised in the middle like a turtle's back. ※Sozanshu (1674), vol. 16, "Feelings of a famine year: "The wild grasses pierce the _turtle's _back , and the wild insects enter the _fangs of _dogs ." ※Tokyo Shin-Fukujo-ki (1874-76), 〈Hattori Seiichi〉, vol. 3, "In the center are carriages and horses, and on both sides are pedestrians, making the road into a turtle's back and covering it with white sand." ② The protruding part of the kyphosis of the spine. Also, a disease in which the spine is bent. ※Onkochi Shinsho (1484), "Turtle back kihai tsukuya" [Explanation of disease names (1686)]
