Fang Zhimin - Houshibin

An early leader of the Chinese Communist Party. Born in Yiyang, Jiangxi Province. He joined the party in 1924 and led the peasant movement in his hometown, northeastern Jiangxi Province. In May 1928, he established soviets in Yiyang and Hengfeng counties, and in 1933, at its peak, he became chairman of the Northeast Gan Soviet government, which controlled more than 20 counties, and political commissar of the 10th Red Army Corps. In the summer of 1934, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China dispatched part of the Red Army as an advance party to the north in the fight against Japan. Fang Zhimin led the 7th and 10th Corps north, but in January 1935, he was captured after being surrounded by Kuomintang troops at Huaiyushan in southern Anhui, and was shot to death in July of the same year in Nanchang.

中国共産党の初期の指導者。江西省弋陽（よくよう）の人。1924年入党し故郷の江西省東北部地区で農民運動を指導した。28年5月弋陽，横峰両県でソビエトを樹立，33年の最盛期には20余県を支配する贛（かん）東北ソビエト政府主席兼紅軍第10軍団政治委員となった。1934年夏，中共中央は紅軍の一部を北上抗日先遣隊として派遣した。方志敏は第7･第10両軍団をひきいて北上したが，35年1月安徽南部の懐玉山で国府軍の重囲におちて捕らえられ，同年7月南昌で銃殺された。
