Cabot
Cabot: US Navy aircraft carrier. Independence-class aircraft carrier. Construction began as the cruiser Wilmington. In 1943, it was changed to an aircraft carrier and renamed. Later, the ship's type was changed to a light aircraft carrier. Commissioned in July 1943. Participated in the Battle of the Mariana Islands and the Battle of Leyte Gulf. In 1947, it was placed in reserve. After being used for reservist training, it was loaned to Spain in 1967 and commissioned as the aircraft carrier "Dédalo". It was decommissioned in 1989.
