...Critic. Born in Hokkaido. At the time, his father, Kiichiro, was the manager of the Hakodate Savings Bank. In 1923, he entered the old Yamagata High School, where he became familiar with the works of Goethe and Heine through German and also became interested in Communist ideology. In 1926, he entered the University of Tokyo, where he met Nakano Shigeharu and others, and was active as a member of the Shinjinkai and the Communist Youth League. In 1928, he was arrested and imprisoned. He was released two years later and joined the League of Japanese Proletarian Writers (Narup) to start afresh as a critic, but after the league was dissolved, he worked for the coterie magazine Genjitsu, and in 1935, he founded the Japanese Romantic Group with Yasuda Yojuro and others, searching for a way to regenerate his self after his conversion. ...
