"Edo Proud Love Merchant" - Edo Jiman Koi no Akindo

...The main theme of the Joruri play "Nisei no Kumi Obi" by Miyakoji Bungo was the late Kyoho or Genbun period (1730-40), with the elder daughter Ofusa, the younger daughter Koito, and Ofusa's husband who becomes deeply intimate with Koito, played by Sasshichi. The first Kabuki adaptation of this love story was "Satsuki Matsu Soga no Tachibana" (written by Horikawa Jizai, January 1754 at Edo Ichimura-za), which was adapted to incorporate the world of the Sogas, and was then performed as puppet plays "Ito Sakura Honmachi Iku" (written by Kigami Taro, March 1777 at Edo Gaiki-za) and "Edo Jiman Koi Shounin" (written by Tomosaburo and Onigane, March 1777 at Edo Hizen-za). The former was adapted into Kabuki play "Honmachi Iku Ukina Hanako" and performed at Nakamura-za in May 1777. His calligraphy works include Kokoro no Nazo Toke Tairoito (Colored Thread that Solves the Mystery of the Heart) (written by Tsuruya Nanboku IV, 1810) and Edo Ikugosai Sasshichi (written by Kawatake Shinshichi III, 1898).
