Mary Magdalene

A saint from Magdala on the west shore of Lake Galilee, as told in the New Testament. She is said to have had seven demons cast out of her by Jesus Christ (Mark 16:9). She was once a prostitute, but repented and served Jesus devotedly. She was present at Jesus' execution and burial (Matthew 27:56, Mark 15:47), visited his tomb and met him after his resurrection (Mark 16:1-8). She was also the first person Jesus appeared to after his resurrection (John 20:11-18).

新約聖書に語られるガリラヤ湖西岸マグダラ出身の聖女。イエス･キリストにより〈七つの悪霊〉を追い出してもらったという(《マルコによる福音書》16：9)。かつて遊女であったが，悔い改めイエスに献身的に仕えた。イエスの処刑，埋葬に立ち会い(《マタイによる福音書》27：56，《マルコによる福音書》15：47)，墓を訪ねて復活したイエスに接した(《マルコによる福音書》16：1～8)。またイエスは復活後最初に彼女の前に現れた(《ヨハネによる福音書》20：11～18)。
