Gratitude lecture - Kanonkou

Japanese: 感恩講 - かんおんこう

This was one of the disaster prevention organizations established in 1829 (Bunsei 12) through the efforts of Nawa Saburouemon Sukeo, a merchant who was a supplier to the Akita Domain. Its financial resources were provided by contributions from the domain and philanthropic comrades, and its assets were considered to have a special nature that did not belong to either the government or the private sector. It appointed yearly officials to manage it, and its main activities were relief for the poor and childcare for infants. The Kan'onko's activities were carried out on a daily basis, not just during disasters or poor harvests, and it appointed officers and subordinates under the yearly officials to investigate whether relief was needed and provide relief.

1829年(文政12)，秋田藩御用達商人那波三郎右衛門祐生の努力によって生まれた備荒組織のひとつ。財源は藩と慈善の同志の出資によって整えられ，その財産は官にも民にも属さない一種特別の性質を有するものとされた。管理者として年番をおき，窮民救恤（きゆうじゆつ）や保嬰（ほえい）育児を主な事業とした。感恩講の事業は，災害や凶作時だけでなく日常的に展開されており，年番のもとに用掛や下役をおき，救済の必要の有無を調査して救恤を実施した。
