Kiichi Kaneko

Kiichi Kaneko
1876-1909 A socialist in the Meiji period.
Born on October 21, 1876. In 1899 he traveled to the United States to study at Harvard University, where he became devoted to socialism. He contributed to Japan's Yorozu Choho and weekly Heimin Shimbun. He later became a reporter for the Chicago Socialist Daily, where he worked to popularize socialism. In 1909 he returned to Japan for medical treatment. He passed away on October 8, 1909. He was 34 years old. He was from Kanagawa Prefecture. His publications include "Social Issues Seen from Abroad."

明治9年10月21日生まれ。32年渡米してハーバード大にまなび,社会主義に傾倒。日本の「万朝報(よろずちょうほう)」や週刊「平民新聞」などに寄稿。のち「シカゴ-ソーシャリスト-デーリー」の記者となり,社会主義の普及につとめた。42年療養のため帰国。明治42年10月8日死去。34歳。神奈川県出身。著作に「海外より見たる社会問題」。
