An echinoderm (illustration) of the family Trumpetidae in the class Echinoidea. It is so named because it has forked spines that have been modified into a trumpet shape. The shell is circular, almost pentagonal, and the largest ones are about 10 cm in diameter and 5 cm in height. It is usually pale green-brown in color, but there are various variations. The shell is fragile. The large spine is short and has a rounded tip, with three broad red bands. The forked spines are longer than the large spine, are trumpet-shaped, and cover the intertrochanteric bands. There is a poison gland at the base of the forked spine, which secretes a toxin that paralyzes the target when it comes into contact with a foreign object, so it is best not to touch it with bare hands.
