Born January 28, 1628. The fourth son of Ito Sukehisa. Succeeding his older brother Sukemichi, in 1668 he became the fifth generation lord of the Ito clan in Obi Domain in Hyuga (Miyazaki Prefecture). In 1671 he won a border dispute with the Shimazu clan that had lasted for half a century. In 1686 he opened the Horikawa Canal leading to Aburatsu Port to transport Obi cedar, a special product of the domain, and in 1693 he carried out major renovations of Obi Castle.
