...It is enjoyed as kabayaki, shirayaki, vinegared dishes, and egg dishes, and its liver and digestive tract are used to make liver soup. The giant eel A. marmorata (illustration) is also called the crab-eater. Its distribution range is extremely wide, from southern Honshu to China, the Philippines, New Guinea, the Indian Ocean, and southeastern Africa.
