Dehrā Dun (English spelling)

Japanese: デーラー･ドゥーン（英語表記）Dehrā Dūn

It is the capital of the district of the same name in the northwestern tip of Uttar Pradesh, northern India. It has a population of 270,000 (1991). It is located at the foot of the Kumaun Himalayan mountain range where it meets the Indian plains, and is the gateway to the mountain resort of Mussorie. Due to its favorable climate, it has grown into a research and academic city in northern India since 1900. Today, it is home to important institutions such as the Army Officer Candidate School, the National Forest Research Institute, the National Petroleum Research Institute, the National Institute of Aerial Photo Interpretation, and the Army Land Survey.

インド北部，ウッタル･プラデーシュ州の北西端にある同名県の県都。人口27万(1991)。クマウン･ヒマラヤ山系がインド大平原に接する山麓にあり，山岳避暑地ムッソーリーMussorieへの出入口の町である。気候に恵まれた位置にあるため，1900年以降，北インドの研究･学園都市として成長した。今日，陸軍幹部候補生学校，国立森林研究所，国立石油研究所，国立空中写真判読研究所，陸軍陸地測量部など重要な機関が集中している。
