An old town in Higashimorokata County in the central south of Miyazaki Prefecture. Occupying the midstream of the Oyo River, the central settlement on a river terrace has long been an important transportation hub, and the junction of national highways 10 and 268. In addition to rice cultivation, the town produces mandarin oranges and tea, and also raises livestock. Getchibai (a natural monument) is a famous plum blossom spot. In January 2006, it was incorporated into Miyazaki City along with Tano Town and Sadowara Town in Miyazaki County. 144.58 km2 . Population: 12,983 (2003).
