Cardiac catheterization - Shinzou Catheterho (English spelling)
Cardiac catheterization is also called cardiac catheterization. A small incision is made in a peripheral blood vessel in the elbow or thigh, through which a thin plastic catheter is inserted and guided to the heart under X-ray fluoroscopy. Blood pressure is measured in various parts of the heart, blood is drawn, and a contrast agent is injected to perform cardiac angiography, which is useful for diagnosing cardiac anomalies, the function of the valves, and the condition of the coronary arteries. This examination provides very detailed images of lesions in the heart and vascular lumen, providing important information. Angiography has developed rapidly, especially since the development of contrast agents using organic iodine agents with low toxicity. The three men who founded cardiac catheterization in 1929, W. Forssmann of Germany, and AF Cournan and D. Richards of the United States, who perfected its clinical application in 1941, received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1956 for their achievements.
