Japanese: 方法叙説 - ほうほうじょせつ

Descartes' representative work. Also known as Discourse on the Method. Published in 1637. Written as a general introduction to three tentative treatises, "Refraction", "Meteorology" and "Geometry", Descartes presented his own philosophical system. It takes the form of an academic autobiography consisting of six parts, and has become widely read independently. It begins with a declaration that reason is common to all, followed by the discovery of the cogito (I think, therefore I am), and goes on to express his own philosophical aspirations as a tool for controlling nature.

デカルトの代表的著作。《方法序説》とも。1637年刊。デカルトが自らの哲学体系を示すために，《屈折光学》《気象学》《幾何学》の３試論の総序として書いたもの。６部からなる学問的自伝の形をとっており，独立して広く読まれるようになった。理性が万人に共通であることの宣言に始まり，〈コギト〉の発見（我思う，故に我あり）を経て，自然支配の具としての自らの哲学の抱負に至る。
