The Drakensberg is a region of the South African inland plateau cut by cliffs collectively known as the Great Escarpment, but the steepest and highest parts of the Drakensberg are called the "Drakensberg" (Dragon Mountains). Its local name is Quathlamba (Rock Mountains). In the narrow sense, it refers to the cliffs of the Basuto Highlands in Lesotho and the border area between the Free State and KwaZulu-Natal provinces, stretching for about 500 km. *Some of the terminology explanations that mention "Catulamba" are listed below.
