Also known as Hozakinofusamo. A perennial aquatic plant of the Araceae family. It is found throughout Japan and in the temperate to subtropical zones of the Northern Hemisphere, growing in ponds and swamps. The stems can reach over 1m in length. The leaves are thin and filiform, arranged in whorls of four. From May to September, the flower spikes grow above the water surface and produce pale brown flowers. The male flowers are arranged in whorls at the top and the female flowers are arranged in whorls at the bottom. It is often kept in an aquarium for decoration. Matsumo is also called Kingyomo, but this is a perennial aquatic plant of the Araceae family that is found worldwide. The leaves are whorls at the nodes, forked several times, and the lobes have thorns. In summer, red-tinged flowers without perianths bloom in the leaf axils.

ホザキノフサモとも。アリノトウグサ科の多年生の水草。日本全土および北半球の温帯〜暖帯に広く分布し，池や沼などの水中にはえる。茎は長さ1m以上になる。葉は糸状に細く裂け，４枚ずつ輪生する。５〜９月，水面上に花穂をのばし，淡褐色の小花をつける。上部に雄花，下部に雌花が層になって輪生。水槽などに入れて観賞する。マツモもキンギョモと呼ばれるが，こちらはマツモ科の多年生の水草で，全世界に分布する。葉は節に輪生し，数回叉状(さじょう)に裂け，裂片にはとげがある。夏，葉腋に紅色を帯びた花被のない花が咲く。
