Pedrolino

...In Japan, the name is often confused with that of a circus clown. It is said to have originated from the role of Pedrolino, a servant in the Commedia dell'arte, and later appeared in a 1547 script under the name Piero. This clown, who wears a white conical hat and long grey trousers and jumps and bounces around, is not a leading role like Arlecchino, but a light supporting role, and is characterized by not wearing a mask and wearing whitish makeup.
