Chaghatai Khan (English spelling)

Japanese: チャガタイ･ハーン（英語表記）Chaghatai Khān

The second son of Genghis Khan, he was the founder of the Chagatai Khanate. In Chinese historical sources, he is known as Sahetai. In 1207-11, when Genghis Khan divided his clan, he was given 4,000 Mongolians (some say 8,000) from the Barlas and Jarāyir tribes, as well as land in the Altai region, and founded the Chagatai Khanate. However, he continued to follow his father and participated in military campaigns throughout the country in 1211 and in the Western Regions from 1919 onwards, achieving many military feats.

チンギス･ハーンの第2子で，チャガタイ･ウルス(チャガタイ･ハーン国)の祖。中国史料では察合台。1207‐11年に行われたチンギス･ハーンによる一族の分封に際し，バルラース部，ジャラーイル部などに属する4000人(8000人とする説もある)のモンゴル人と，アルタイ地方における所領とを与えられ，チャガタイ･ウルスを創設した。しかしその後も，父に従って，11年の全国遠征，19年以降の西域遠征等に参加して武功を重ねた。
