The Central Asian Sufi orders had a major influence on India and Western Asia, but the Chishti sect's full-scale activity in India began when Mu'in al-Din Sijzī (1142?-1236) founded a khanqah (monastery) in Ajmer, southwest of Delhi, at the end of the 12th century.
