Kodomari [Village] - Kodomari
A village in Kitatsugaru District, northwest of Aomori Prefecture. Population 4,311 (1995). Located at the northwestern tip of the Tsugaru Peninsula, the Tsugaru Mountains, which form the backbone of the peninsula, come all the way to the coast. Flat land is limited to a small area downstream of the Kodomari River, and most of the area is made up of mountain forests, mainly national forests. Settlements such as Kodomari and Shimozen are located at the base of the Kodomari Peninsula, which juts out into the Sea of ​​Japan. In the early modern period, Kodomari, the central town, was a port where ships waited for the wind on the shipping route to Matsumae and the Nishimawari shipping route, and the settlement is said to have been formed during the Shoho era (1644-48). Kodomari fishing port was built in 1922, and in 1951 it was designated a refuge port and development began.

青森県北西部,北津軽郡の村。人口4311(1995)。津軽半島北西端に位置し,半島の脊梁をなす津軽山地が海岸まで迫る。平地は小泊川下流のわずかな地域に限られ,大部分は国有林を主とする山林からなる。日本海に突出した小泊半島の基部に小泊,下前などの集落がある。中心の小泊は近世は松前への航路や西廻航路の風待ち港で,正保年間(1644‐48)に集落が形成されたといわれる。1922年に小泊漁港が築港され,51年には避難港に指定され整備がすすめられた。
