Richter
German conductor. One of the most representative performers of the late 19th century. Born in Raab (now Győr, northwestern Hungary) to famous musicians, he studied at the Vienna Conservatory. After working as a horn player at the opera house, he gained experience as a conductor at the Munich Opera House under Bülow from 1868 to 1869. In 1875, he became the Kapellmeister of the Vienna Court Opera (now the Vienna State Opera), and the following year, in 1876, he premiered the entire opera Der Ring des Nibelungen by R. Wagner, with whom he was a close friend, at Bayreuth. After that, he played a central role at the Bayreuth Festival (see Music Festivals). After moving to England in 1878, he played a major role in introducing Wagner's works to England, including Tristan und Isolde and Der Ring des Nibelungen. In 1904, he became the first chief conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra. He retired in 1912. → Knappertsbusch / Beecham → Related articles Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra | Elgar

Richter

German painter. Born in Waltersdorf, former East Germany. He has developed two trends: works that pursue visual realism using realistic techniques based on ordinary snapshots and photographic images circulated in the mass media, and purely abstract works that compose the picture plane with the materiality of paint. Incorporating photographic images into paintings, he takes the blurred focus and poor composition of low-precision snapshots and expands them, critically utilizing the reproducibility of paintings and photographs. For Richter, concrete objects are merely models for understanding the appearance of the world. The two seemingly opposing techniques, photo-painting and abstract painting, are means to reach a reality that goes beyond the visible world, and are an attempt to summarize 20th century painting.

Richter

German conductor, organist and harpsichordist. Born in Plauen in Saxony to a family of organists. Studied at the Leipzig Conservatory from 1946, and in 1949 became organist at the St. Thomas Church, which is associated with JS Bach. In 1951 he moved to Munich in West Germany, and in 1956 became professor at the Munich Higher Music School. He formed the Munich Bach Choir in 1953 and the Munich Bach Orchestra in 1955, and as their conductor he became active internationally, marking an era in the interpretation of JS Bach's works, including the St. Matthew Passion, with his dramatic and intimate performances. He also left behind many memorable performances as an organist and harpsichordist. He first visited Japan in 1979.

Richter

American physicist. Member of the Stanford Linear Accelerator Laboratory. He studied the annihilation process of positrons and electrons, and in 1974 Richter and his colleagues discovered a new particle consisting of a charm quark and its antiparticle, which they named the Ψ (psi) particle. Around the same time, Ting and his colleagues at Brookhaven Laboratory independently discovered the same particle, which they named the J particle. For this reason, this particle is called the J/Ψ (J-psi) particle. In 1976, he shared the Nobel Prize in Physics with Ting.

Richter

German Romantic painter. Born in Dresden. He joined the Nazarene school and stayed in Italy from 1823 to 1826. After returning to Japan, he became a leading figure in the field, producing simple and friendly illustrations for collections of fairy tales and folk tales using woodblock printing. His oil paintings include Evening Prayer (1842, Kunsthalle Leipzig) and Genoveva in the Silence of the Forest (1841, Kunsthalle Hamburg).
