［History］
When Noh first began, there were no permanent, dedicated stages; one was erected for each performance, or the worship hall of a temple or shrine or a Bugaku stage was repurposed, or even earlier, a stage was laid out on straw mats or boards in the gardens of the temple grounds. Even today, at the post-feast banquet of the Kasuga Wakamiya Festival in Nara City, a performance is held on a platform-style earthen stage at Kasuga Shrine, but this remains an ancient style. It is thought that the current stage style was established around the second half of the 16th century (the end of the Muromachi period).

　発生当時の能には常設･専用の舞台はなく，演能のたびごとに組み立てたり，社寺の拝殿や舞楽舞台を転用したり，もっと古くは境内の庭上に筵（むしろ）や板を敷いて舞台にしていたらしい。現在も，奈良市春日若宮御祭の後宴の能では春日社の土壇形式の土舞台の上に所作台を敷いて演能が行われるが，古い形式を残すものである。ほぼ現行のような舞台の様式が整うのは，だいたい16世紀後半(室町末期)と考えられる。…
