…River terraces have developed on the west bank of the Tenryu River, which flows south along the eastern edge, and are used for cultivating pears, apples, and other fruits, as well as for growing rice. The central settlement, Kamiichida, was a post station on the Ina-Okan route in the early modern period, and Ichida Jinya was located here when it was an exclave of the Oshu Shirakawa Domain at the end of the Edo period. There are ancient temples such as the Tendai sect's Ruriji Temple and the Rinzai sect's An'yōji Temple, as well as the Takenouchi family residence, designated an Important Cultural Property as a typical example of the honmune-zukuri style of architecture from the mid-Edo period. …
