...A false accusation of heresy persecution in France. On March 9, 1762, the Toulouse High Court sentenced Jean Calas (1698-1762), a clothier on the Rue de la Filatière in the city, to death. Calas, a Protestant, had strangled his eldest son, Marc, who was trying to convert to Catholicism (on the night of October 13, 1761). On February 19, 1762, the three Protestant pastors, Rochette and Grenier, were executed. This was persecution caused by the fanaticism of intolerance on the Catholic side. ...
