Kajiwara Kinpachi

… Mimura Shintaro, a screenwriter who often worked with Inagaki Hiroshi and Yamanaka Sadao, was known for his portrayal of a free-spirited traveling yakuza with a petty bourgeois sensibility. At the time, eight people who lived in Narutaki, Kyoto - Mimura Shintaro, Inagaki Hiroshi, Yamanaka Sadao, Yahiro Fuji, Takizawa Eisuke, Fujii Shigeji, Doi Masamoto, and Hagiwara Ryo - called themselves the Narutaki Group and wrote many new period drama scripts under the joint pen name Kajiwara Kinpachi. Many of their works, especially those of Itami Mansaku and Yamanaka Sadao, broke the image of period dramas as swordplay films, and were called "modern dramas with topknots" that depicted human beings with modern intelligence and sensibilities, and were extremely high in terms of cinematic expression. …

...The name of a group of film directors and scriptwriters who lived in Narutaki, Kyoto around 1934-37. The eight of them, Sadao Yamanaka, Hiroshi Inagaki, Eisuke Takizawa, Ryohei Arai, Masamoto Doi, Shintaro Mimura, Fuji Yahiro, and Shigeji Fujii, used the pen name Kajiwara Kinpachi to collaborate on screenplays and productions with the aim of creating new, free films. In that sense, they were similar to the postwar French Nouvelle Vague, especially the group of critics from the film research journal Cahiers du Cinema.
