Kashiwabara Village

...A city in southern Saitama Prefecture. It straddles the Musashino Plateau and the Iruma Plateau, separated by the northwest-flowing Iruma River. Population 162,240 (1995). In 1954, Irumagawacho and the five villages of Iruma, Horikane, Okutomi, Kashiwara, and Mizutomi were merged to form a city. Irumagawa, located in the center of the city, was established as a settlement where the Kamakura Highway crossed the Iruma River, and in the Edo period, 2 and 7 six towns were established. The water-poor characteristics of the Musashino Plateau are well reflected in the place name Nigemizu and the remains of Horikane Well and Nanamagari Well. In 1895, the Kawagoe Railway (now the Seibu Shinjuku Line) was opened. ...
