...This Sagami tradition is characterized by a beautiful surface with a textured grain forged from a combination of hard and soft iron, thick boiling, and a blade pattern with many features such as gold lines, lightning, and sand nagashi. Masamune produced many swords and tanto, but there are few with signatures. There are only a few tanto with the name Kyogoku Masamune from the Kyogoku family, Daikoku Masamune from the Mogami family, Honjo Masamune from the Honjo family, and the famous Fudo Masamune from the Owari family. …この相州伝とは，硬軟の鉄を組み合わせて鍛えた板目に地景が入った美しい地肌と沸が厚くつき，金筋，稲妻，砂流しなどの働きが多い湾れ（のたれ）の刃文に特色がある。正宗の作品は太刀，短刀ともに多いが，在銘作は少なく，京極家伝来の〈京極正宗〉，最上家伝来の〈大黒正宗〉，本庄家伝来の〈本庄正宗〉と号のある短刀，また尾張家伝来の名物〈不動正宗〉の短刀など数点にすぎない。正宗の子に貞宗がおり，父の作風を継いで上手であるが，比較的おだやかなものが多い。…
