Japanese: ラディシュ（英語表記）radish

An annual plant of the Brassicaceae family (illustration). A European type of radish, it is also known as the radish radish because it can be harvested in a short time of 20 to 30 days after sowing. It has been distributed in the West since ancient times, and is said to have been mentioned in inscriptions on the construction of the pyramids. Its place of origin is unknown, and it is thought to have been created by crossing old European wild species. The plant is small and is a very early-maturing variety. It is generally hairy. The roots range in shape from round to oblong, and can be white, red, purple, etc. in color. It is resistant to low temperatures and is slow to bolt.

アブラナ科の一年草（イラスト）。ヨーロッパ系のダイコンで，播種（はしゆ）してから20～30日の短期間で収穫できるところから，ハツカダイコンの別名がある。古くから西洋に分布し，ピラミッド建設の碑文にも記されているといわれる。原産地は不明で，古いヨーロッパの野生種の交雑によりできたものと考えられている。植物体は小さく，極早生種である。全体に多毛。根形は丸形から長形まであり，根色も白，紅，紫などがある。低温に強く，とう立ちも遅い。
