1316-1375 The first king of the Buddhist kingdom of Lao Xang, which developed in the 14th to 18th centuries in what is now Laos and northeastern Thailand, mainly for the Lao people. Reigned 1354-1373. His achievements are recorded in the historical tale "Nitang Khunbrom" written in the 16th century and the highly reliable "Lane Xang Annals." Half of the former is a heroic tale about Fa Ngum, who grew up in the royal palace of Angkor, leading troops from Cambodia to northern Laos and founding a new state, but the political events in the north reflect Mongolian and Yuan dynasty elements.

現在のラオスと東北タイに，ラオ族を中心として14～18世紀に展開した仏教王国ランサンの初代王。在位1354‐73年。彼の事績は16世紀に成立した歴史物語《ニタン･クンブロム》と信憑性の高い《ランサン年代記》にみられる。前者の一半はファーグムにまつわる英雄譚であり，アンコールの王宮で育ったファーグムは，カンボジアから兵を率いて北ラオスにいたり建国したとされているが，北部での政治的できごとはむしろモンゴル･元朝的要素を反映している。
