Damavand (mountain) (English spelling)

Japanese: ダマーバンド[山]（英語表記）Damāvand

It is the highest peak in the Elburz Mountains in northern Iran. It is located northeast of Tehran. It is 5,671m above sea level. It is an inactive volcano, and was formerly known as "Mountain of Smoke and Steam" (Danbāvand). There are hot springs such as A-b-e-Gyarum at the foot of the mountain. It often appears in myths and legends, such as the fact that the tyrant Ḍaḥḥāk (Dahāk) was imprisoned on this mountain. In 1837, the Englishman Taylor Thomson was the first to successfully reach the summit. [Masataka Oka]
