…Watanabe Ken's German citizenship was taken away by the Nazis, and he lived in the United States and Switzerland, before acquiring American citizenship in 1947. He is known for his socially critical and anti-war novels, and his other major works include Love Your Neighbor (1941), The Arc de Triomphe (1946), which depicts the life and fate of a German doctor who is exiled to Paris, and A Time to Love and a Time to Die (1954).
