...The Ministry of International Trade and Industry has been conducting surveys of foreign-affiliated companies since 1967, and has been publishing the Trends of Foreign-Affiliated Companies every year since 1968. Currently, this survey covers companies with more than one-third foreign capital, and is divided into "pure foreign-affiliated companies" where more than 95% of the capital is foreign-affiliated, "joint ventures" where Japanese companies and foreign capital have joint investments (foreign capital also participates in management), and foreign-invested companies where part of the stock of an existing Japanese company has been acquired by foreign capital (stock holdings only). The entry of foreign-affiliated companies into Japan (acquisition of stock with participation in management) was extremely stagnant until the early 1960s. ...
