On December 9th, 1935, a demonstration against Japanese aggression took place in China, mainly among students in Beiping (Beijing). The Japanese military had been carrying out acts of aggression and self-governance in North China since 1933, but the Nationalist government repeatedly compromised and suppressed the anti-Japanese movement among the people. The December 9th movement was aimed at protesting against this Nationalist government and spreading anti-Japanese propaganda, and the government's suppression led to the movement developing into a nationwide anti-Japanese movement.
