Charites (English spelling)

Greek goddesses. Plural form of Charis. Her father was Zeus, but there are various theories about her mother. Originally they were plant goddesses and are thought to be symbols of spring buds, but they are known as goddesses of beauty and grace, and are usually identified as Thalia (Prosperity), Euphrosyne (Joy), and Aglaia (Shining Woman). Generally, they are in supporting roles subordinate to Aphrodite or other goddesses, but their young and beautiful bodies are often the subject of artworks.

ギリシア神話の女神。カリスCharisの複数形。父親はゼウスであるが、母親には諸説ある。元来は植物神で、春の芽生えの象徴と考えられるが、美と優雅をつかさどる女神として知られ、普通タレイア（繁栄）、エウプロシネ（喜び）、アグライア（輝く女）の3人とされる。一般に彼女らはアフロディテまたはほかの女神に従属する脇役的地位にあるが、若く美しいその肢体はしばしば芸術作品のテーマに取り上げられている。
