An island off the coast of Portsmouth in southern England, UK. Since 1974 it has been part of the Isle of Wight. It is separated from the mainland by the narrow Solent Channel. It has a warm climate and beautiful scenery, with many resorts, including the state capital Newport. The chalk cliffs of Needles Island off the west coast are famous. In addition to sheep farming, local agriculture, such as the cultivation of fruit trees, vegetables, and flowers, is also carried out. Area: 380 km2 .
