Bunraku puppet theater. Historical piece. 5 acts. Written by Namiki Sosuke. Commonly known as Chujohime. First performed at the Toyotakeza Theater in Osaka in February 1740 (Genbun 5). Based on the legend of Chujohime that remains at Taima-ji Temple in Yamato. It is said that Chujohime wove a mandala with lotus threads to pray for the soul of her father, Fujiwara Toyonari, and was abandoned by her stepmother on Hibariyama. This legend began as a Noh piece, Hibariyama, and Taema, and has been adapted into many works, including Bunraku puppet theater Taima Chujohime at the Takemotoza Theater in Osaka in April 1696 (Genroku 9) and Kabuki play Taima Chujo Mandala no Origin at the Araki Yojibei Theater in Osaka in 1698.

人形浄瑠璃。時代物。5段。並木宗輔作。通称《中将姫》。1740年(元文5)2月大坂豊竹座初演。大和の当麻(たいま)寺に残る中将姫伝説に拠ったもの。中将姫は,父藤原豊成の菩提を弔うため,蓮の糸で曼陀羅を織ったとか,継母に雲雀山(ひばりやま)に捨てられたとか伝えられている。この伝説が,謡曲《雲雀山》《当麻(たえま)》に始まり,人形浄瑠璃では,1696年(元禄9)4月大坂竹本座の《当麻中将姫》,歌舞伎では,98年大坂荒木与次兵衛座の《当麻中将曼陀羅の由来》など,多くの作品に脚色されている。
