Invented by the Swedish Oscar Birger Carlson (1873-1928), this explosive is based on perchlorate and contains more than 10% perchlorate. It was particularly developed in Japan, and was exclusively manufactured by Japan Carlit Co., Ltd. Its ingredients are ammonium perchlorate, ferrous silicon, wood powder, and heavy oil. Although it is powerful, it has problems with the after-gas, so it was used in open-cut limestone mining, but the after-gas was improved and it was also used underground. Ammonium nitrate oil explosives and water-containing explosives have replaced Carlit, and it has not been manufactured since 1998.
